OAKLAND SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS: Application and Enrollment Overview

Thank you for your interest in Oakland School for the Arts!

OSA students are selected for enrollment to the Oakland School for the Arts in an audition process designed to identify candidates with demonstrated interest, aptitude and potential in one of eleven art forms.  Auditions are scored on a rubric which is used to determine who is invited to enroll. Auditions are conducted in January and February for fall enrollment and are open to incoming middle and high school students, although in grades 7,8,10 and 11 there are minimal spots available. We do not typically enroll incoming 12th graders.

Enrollment is based solely on an audition or portfolio review in the student’s art discipline, conducted by the school’s professional arts faculty and guest artists. Nothing else is used to determine enrollment—transcripts, grades, and test scores are not considered in the enrollment process.  By focusing solely on the audition or portfolio review, OSA aims to encourage all students interested in the arts to apply to the school.

Auditions for the 2017-2018 School Year 

Each year, OSA hosts two rounds of auditions, and a special 3rd audition for students enrolled in our Step-it-Up program. Applicants may audition for one or two arts majors.

Campus Tours:

Tours take place twice a month on Thursday at 1:45 pm.  Our campus visit program lasts approximately two hours, and features a parent officer-led information session. We welcome students and parents to join us. RSVPs are required for all Campus Tours, and the number of attendees per family is limited to three. Please do not show up without making a reservation. Due to the high level of interest in OSA, we are only able to offer slots to students and parents/guardians who are currently in 5th-10th grade.
