This past weekend, OSA's own Vocal Rush competed alongside eight other groups from all over the U.S. in the International Championship of High School A Cappella Finals in New York City. Vocal Rush was one of the top nine groups to win their semi-final out of 120 groups in total. After delivering a stand-out performance of their set, including covers of "All Is Full of Love" by Bjork, "People" by Laura Mvula and "Have Mercy" by Eryn Allen Kane, Vocal Rush was crowned as ICHSA champions for the fourth time since the group's inception six years ago. They represented Oakland and OSA beautifully, singing about the power of love, light and mercy to heal our hearts and change our broken world. The nine singers who competed on Friday night also had the opportunity to perform two of their songs the next night at the historic Beacon Theater as part of the collegiate championship (the event that inspired the film Pitch Perfect). This year's winners not only receive a trophy and $1000 cash prize, but for the first time this year, the winners of the ICHSA automatically advance to a brand new competition hosted by the same educational organization Varsity Vocals: The A Cappella Open. The Open will be held at Carnegie Hall on September 23rd, 2017 and Vocal Rush will have the opportunity to compete against professional and college groups for a chance to win $25,000.
