Media Arts students learn industry relevant digital art skills including digital image creation and manipulation, photography, filmmaking, animation, digital graphic design, and media studies with an emphasis on career readiness and portfolio preparation. Students participate in solo and collaborative projects, develop their portfolios and reels, and submit their work to festivals and contests year-round. Many Media Arts' students also collaborate across emphases with classes and projects in Audio Production and Engineering, Vocal Music, Theatre, and Visual Art. Media Art offers CTE (Career Technical Education) pathways in both graphic design and video production.

Heidi Cregge

Heidi Cregge is the founder and returning co-chair of the Media Arts Pathway at Oakland School for the Arts (OSA), and former co-chair of OSA’s School of Visual Art. Her work focuses on transformative media arts education, empowering youth to tell their stories and think critically about media and the stories we tell. She helped create and launch Camp Reel Stories, now part of the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), a media arts program for girls and gender expansive youth, serving in many roles over the years as curriculum specialist, instructor, and board member. Heidi earned a BFA in Film and Photography from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA in VFX from Savannah College of Art and Design, holds a California Single Subject credential in Art, and a California Technical Education (CTE) credential in Arts, Media, and Entertainment.
