Families in Transition

Families in transition are welcome and encouraged to enroll at Oakland School for the Arts. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act ensures educational rights and protections for children and youth experiencing homelessness.

Our school's McKinney-Vento coordinator is Enrollment and Student Services Director Rachel Dalton. Unhoused youth and families should contact her for assistance with enrollment applications, referrals to services, access to technology, and other questions. Please also see our Family Resources website.

OSA is making a direct commitment to prioritize enrollment for Oakland residents and students that participate in our Step It Up equity and outreach program. Preferences, particularly those students who are enrolled in Title I schools, will be given in the lottery for this and other areas: successful completion of the Step It Up program and residing in Oakland, using OUSD’s residence documentation standards, with provision for Families In Transition per the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
